Yesterday Jamie and I did a little bit to help the planet. On our usual grocery trip to Walmart, we took our own bags! We actually managed to get the bags from the house to the car and then from the car to the store. Aren't you proud of us?
Packing the groceries in the bags didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. The people in line behind us didn't let us load all of our stuff on the conveyor belt before they loaded all of their stuff. So Jamie was handing stuff to the cashier and I was taking stuff from her to stuff in the bags. Ideally, all of our stuff would already be on the conveyor and then BOTH of us would be able to sort and stuff the bags. At least we made it home without another plastic bag to worry with.
We do use some of the plastic bags as trash bags for our little waste baskets. I used to take some to work to give to folks who bought a lot of stuff and to use as packing material for orders that I had to ship. I did remember to take a load of bags back to Walmart several months ago to put in the store's plastic bag recycle box. We are conscious of having the bags and try to not just throw them away. Now maybe with using canvas bags, we won't end up with a gazillion plastic bags like usual.
